PUSH+ RESIDENTIES

After each Lab all participating artists will be offered the chance to apply to take part in an associated Residency hosted by a different PUSH+ partner. This will allow production ideas and collaborations from the Lab quality time and space to develop with support, advice and feedback provided where needed.

The dates for the 2-week Residency will be advertised alongside the dates of the Lab so that all artists applying to take part in the Lab know when this will take place. Selection for the Residency will be done between the Lab host (who will have worked with all 15 Lab artists during that time), the Residency host (who will be supporting them for the 2 weeks) and at least one external person (to offer objective input to the selection process). Four artists will be selected on the quality of their production idea, the strength of its connection to the theme and its future potential.

Home residency – CCHA/Krokusfestival

CCHA/Krokusfestival will host 4 artists to develop the input and inspiration from the Home Lab into the next creation phase. In the Residency these artists can develop their ideas into a work-in-progress level that could become the introduction to a future production. The residency will take place in THE LAB, a new artistic residential workspace for artist development in Hasselt, Belgium, which supports research, process and production development in performance for young audiences. It allows the artists to research and develop their ideas in a quiet and safe environment, but they can also make use of the technical infrastructure of CCHA, if needed. CCHA/Krokusfestival will be closely connected to the residency both in terms of production arrangements (organization, production, venues, logistical needs) and dramaturgical feedback. We will discuss with the artists all possibilities and opportunities to connect them to our network of schools, children, parents and invite them to meet local artists and see shows.

Failure residency – The Ark

The Ark residency will host 4 artists who, following the Failure Lab in Belgium, wish to develop their Lab ideas towards a future production in a more intimate and intense context. The residency will take place in The Ark’s award-winning building in the heart of Dublin and off-site in Annamakerrig, an artists’ retreat in rural County Monaghan. This dual location will allow the artists to focus on the development of the work in a residential setting in the first week where they will be hosted and catered for. This week will facilitate both solitary and group work practices. The second week in Dublin will make available all of the technical resources of the theatre, gallery and workshop space at The Ark. Artists will be supported by The Ark production team to try out performance ideas in a safe space. The Ark Children’s Council, an advisory group of 30 children who participate in all Ark programmes, will engage with the artists as their work evolves, ensuring that children are at the heart of the artistic process. The Ark will use its large network to connect the visiting artists with local artists and collaborators (through meetings and show attendances) to enhance their investigation of the topic of failure.

Different bodies residency – Aaben Dans

Aaben Dans will connect the PUSH+ artists with local artists, children and adults who could benefit from taking part in the residency. Aaben Dans will be in close contact with the Residency artists on a daily basis:

- conducting feedback and supervision sessions on both artistic and organisational issues

- ensuring the artists’ venue and logistical needs are met

- networking and having a social connection via a daily communal meal

Furthermore, Aaben Dans will bring the Residency artists to local events and opportunities that are relevant to the topic and the artform that they work within.

PUSH+ Festival Presentations

In PUSH+ we wish to increase the risk taken by the project partners and their festivals/venue programmes. This requires our festivals to be at the heart of presenting more of the project to the sector and to the public through curating a programme of works in progress/public interventions with the longer-term aim of partners programming PUSH+ artists’ full productions. This is also a good moment to present project outcomes as it is the point when each festival has the attention of their national press and the maximum number of national/international artists and industry delegates attending.

Each of the three topics will culminate in a Festival Presentation with opportunities for artists who took part in the Lab to present works in progress/interventions/site-specific performances within a sector-leading festival programme.

Each artist invited to present will be given a week in the host country for rehearsals and dramaturgical feedback culminating in the Festival Presentation. The festival presentations will take place at Showbox Festival (Home), SWOP Festival (Failure) and Edinburgh International Children’s Festival (Different Bodies).
