ABOUT THE PROJECT
Think local create global is a project in which we research the possibilities of transcontinental artistic cooperation, during five years.
European companies are increasingly finding their way to other continents. However, export is still the main goal: the exotic and adventurous elements have a certain attractiveness. But how can we create an intercultural added value for both parties? How can we bring different cultures, artistic visions and aesthetics together into a new vision?
In 2017, we explored China (Forinna Chen & Tony Reekie), Chile and Brazil (Bebe de Soares & Andrea Perez de Castro), Thailand (Adjima Na Patalung), Egypt (Mohamed El Ghawy) and Nigeria (Jerry Adesewo).
In 2018, we focused on India (Ruchira Das), Tunis (Ben Abdelssalem Walid), Brazil (Karen Acioly) and Chile (Pilar Santelices) and on the artists themselves (Alvaro Morales, Edurne Rankin Garcia and Andrea Jabor).
In 2019, we organised the first artistic exchange around puppet and object theatre with Silencio Blanco (Chile), Hop Signor (Greece) and Flemish artists Lize Pede, Dries De Win and Sven Ronsijn. We’ve also focused on Southern America with key-notes of Bebe de Soares, Gerhard Verfaillie and Pilar Santelices.
In 2020, the artists from the Chilean company La Llave Maestra and Flemish artists Elke Van der Kelen, Naomi Kerkhove en Yentl De Werdt entered into artistic dialogue. The intent was to explore each other’s artistic language in an intercontinental and cultural diverse context. We also organised a symposium on durability in an international context.
This last part of Think local create global will be an artistic dialogue between five artists and Akram Khan Company. A dialogue between East and West, between tradition and the contemporary, between theatre and dance.
