HET LAB is the residential workplace residing under KROKUS, in co-housing with Krokusfestival. In HET LAB, the focus is on research and investigation before or at the beginning of a creation process. HET LAB also offers thematic labs (without production) for (inter)national creators.

For the fifth time during Krokusfestival, HET LAB organises an artistic exchange lab for Flemish and foreign makers. In 2019, we invited Chilean company Silencio Blanco and Greek company Hop Signor, in 2020 it was up to La Llave Maestra from Chile, in 2022 we worked with Akram Khan Company, in 2023 nine Flemish makers worked with Swedish company Bobbi Lo Produktion and La Mecanica from Spain around 'ownership' of children/young people.

In Flanders, we have a long tradition of working with children and young people on stage. Via audition, selection, rehearsal (often with improvisations), we then arrive at a performance with children/young people on stage. So, to some extent, that performance also belongs to them, is also their 'property'. But, admittedly, often these children or young people work in a (whether or not) tightly directed concept of the professional makers.

artistic lab

To what extent is a professional performance with children/young people on stage also their 'property'? In this lab, we explore answers to that question in various ways. On the one hand, we approach the question from a more theoretical framework; on the other hand, we start from testimonies on the floor. Moreover, we want to look at the theme even more broadly as ownership from playing along.

The concrete details of the programme will be announced in early January.

practical

We have room for eight makers and offer a fair daily allowance, reimbursement of travel expenses, full catering and accommodation. In addition, everyone is invited to the opening of the festival, ULTRA by fABULEUS / Reut Shemesh on Wed Feb 07.
