PREMIERE
The room is filled with a silence that feels almost tangible. In a photo, two smiling people. One is still here, the other has crossed over. Everything breathes memory.
In a world that spins faster and faster, we often forget that saying goodbye takes time. But what if we could stretch that time just a little longer? What if we could be together, just a moment more, with the one we have to let go?
Between the one who stays and the one who leaves, a special dialogue begins to unfold. A dialogue like a dance: playful and tender, full of laughter and longing. A sweeping tango, a featherlight waltz, a slow ballet, a furious pogo, a nostalgic disco...
Laika, known as the ‘theatre of the senses’, is a frequent guest at the Krokusfestival. Think of delightful productions like Opera Buffa, Zigzagkind/Zig zag Child, De passant/The Passerby, and in 2025, the fantastic musical tale Amadou.
This time, it’s about death. There, we’ve said it. Is it allowed, can it be about saying goodbye on stage? Certainly, and absolutely certainly in the form of the mountain: as reconciliation, as comfort, as a cherishing of the mystery of life and death.
about the company
Laika, theatre of the senses, saw the light of day in 2001. But in actual fact, it has been around much longer. It grew out of Blauw Vier, which was founded at a time when children’s theatre was virgin territory in Flanders. Thanks in large part to this energizing pioneer, theatre for a young public was able to grow and break down barriers. Laika was instrumental in propelling the genre to great heights. Laika is an open and dynamic company. Innovating, expanding and rejuvenating the core artistic team is a prerequisite for artistic relevance. In 2023, the company reinforced its artistic core: charting the course now are Aminata Demba, Michai Geyzen and Sien Vanmaele together with its original spearheads Peter De Bie and Jo Roets. These five artists, each with his or her own vision, enthusiasm and language, work together in varying combinations and contexts and in a mutually inspired and fertile synergy.
