Memento
BELGIAN PREMIERE
In short time, MazelFreten has grown into thé dance sensation of France. But with that success, they also realized that they were losing their individuality. With Memento, they return to their roots. Thus, Memento can also be seen as a compelling journey through the intimate world of the two choreographers, Laura "Nala" Defretin and Brandon "Miel" Masele, on the way to a future that, paradoxically, entails a return to their roots.
He is an electro dancer, vice world champion in this discipline, Brandon Masele. She is a hip-hop dancer, Laura Defretin. They are known in the world of dance battles as Miel and Nala. They have collaborated with artists such as Christine and the Queens, Stromae, and Angèle. In 2024, they choreographed Obscurity for the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.
In Memento, they combine two dance styles – hip hop and electro. Three electro dancers and three hip hop dancers selected from China, Russia, Cape Verde, Spain, and France sweep us along in an authentic encounter between these two movement styles, cutting across different genres, different bodies, different cultures, and different backgrounds.
A stunning lighting design, an infectious mix of electronic and acoustic music, and six powerful dancers. That is Memento, a compelling and relevant performance that seeks out vitality and hope beyond contradictions. And that is exactly what this world really needs right now!
